The Beautiful Imperial Bed and Breakfast
Welcome to the Beautiful "Imperial Hotel" B&B.  After 5 years of faithful restoration, we are proud to open the former Imperial Hotel as a B&B.  The current Brick structre is all that remains of the once flourishing Pub.  It is now a comfortable 3 bedroom home, with 1/2 an acre of cottage gardens for your enjoyment.

    History:
The Imperial was first established "up the old Lead" in 1854 when the township of Rushworth was just emerging as its gold rush began.  In approximatley 1856 the township began to move to its current site and in 1858 The Imperial moved to its current site.  Initally a weatherboard building with extensive out building The Imperial occupied the center positin of 2 town allotment numbers 36 and 38 High Street.  On either side of "the pub" a store was erected at times housing butchers, grocers and even a shoe maker.
However on midwinters night (June 21) 1880 disater struck and the original weatherboard building was destroyed by fire, though all the outbuilding were saved by the efforts of the local people who came buckets in hand to assist quelling the flames.  Later that year 40,000 hand made bricks were ordered to rebuild "the pub" on the same site.  This is the building which exists today.

    Today:

We offer you a beautifully and faithfully restored Building, which sleeps up to 6 people in 3 original Victorian era double beds.  A claw footed cast iron bath and wonderful gardens which offer not only plants but a fantastic array of bird life.  A ideal site for a wedding, with an ambiance rarely matched.

    Cottage Gardens

    The Imperial Gardens

This heritage cottage garden spans some 0.5 acres. Some of the features being the old grape vine on the back veranda probably dating from the rebuild in c.1881. The hotel owner David Clarke  was a major investor in the establishment of Chateau Tahblik in 1862. You can sit and relax under the sprawling Mulberry tree, taste fruit from the orchard drive way, or wander the winding paths through the roses, daisies and lavender to find delightful features at every turn.

    The Old Hotel

1858 Imperial Hotel was built at the height of The original he gold rush when Rushworth boasted the largest ballroom in the southern hemisphere and was a popular holiday destination for English gentry. However, much of the hotel was destroyed in a fire in 1880, and the present building c.1881, is but a small portion of it.  The building has been restored to its original colours and colonial charm and is available for self-contained accommodation.

    Keeping Warm

This beautiful old Bed Warmer is now simply decorative, but there was a time when it would have been filled with red hot coals and then placed under the covers while being moved back and forth to warm the bed in preperation for its occupants.  Of course you had to be a bit careful that you didn't scortch the bed.

    The Cabapple

Although the cement bench seat is a modern reproduction of a Victorian Era garden seat.  It's position under the wonderful canopy of the Crabapple tree suits it perfectly.  Creating a totally relaxing atmosphere and private space to enjoy.

This beautiful bed warmer was once filled with red hot coals and moved back and forth between the sheets in order to prepare the bed for its occupant.  If one wasn't careful you could scorch the sheets or eevn set the bed alight.

    Hand Forged Iron Wheels

These two beautiful old iron wheels were hand forged by a  blacksmith and are said to be well over 120 years old and most likely to come from a barrow used by local miners during the gold rush.
